Mobile Map Satellite Navigation
The concept of mobile maps began when users were simply delivered a large map to their mobile handset that could easily be browsed. Since then, technology has advanced significantly though and users are presented with a whole array of different features in their application. One of the most recent functions is the ability to use the software as a standalone satellite navigational device. Several high profile mobile map developers have started to release software that functions in exactly the same way that standard GPS navigational products do. Such advancements have caused a huge stir in the industry, with many experts predicting that these applications will have an adverse affect on the general satellite navigation hardware manufacturers.
Mobile Map Satellite Navigation Applications
The purpose of this article is to highlight the main applications which include satellite navigational features in their software. The following three applications will be analysed:
- AmAze
- Sygic
- Garmin
AmAze Mobile Maps
Out of all of the applications which cover satellite navigational functions, AmAze is one of the few free and reputable ones. The developers behind the software have firmly established themselves in the mobile map industry, with their latest product providing the end user with a full GPS navigation experience. The application contains all of the standard features that would be expected from a specialised satellite navigation device, with voice commands, different route options and speed alerts being just several. With all major platforms supporting the application, there is no doubt that AmAze is definitely one of the top mobile map satellite navigation choices.
Sygic Mobile Maps
Unlike AmAze, Sygic products are not free and command a fee from the user. With that being said, most users will only end up paying around £13 so the product certainly isn’t expensive. The application contains many more satellite navigation options than AmAze, with users having real time traffic information and car audio integration as well as other interesting extras. However, Blackberry users will not be able to benefit from this product, with Sygic currently only supporting Android, iPhone and Windows Mobile devices.
Garmin Mobile Maps
Garmin software is much more expensive than other applications, with the company charging between £44.99 and £79.99 depending on the platform. However, the software does possess a hugely impressive feature set with users having access to a product that features practically every satellite navigational feature imaginable. What’s more, the developers claim they are the first to integrate real life 3D images into their software.
Mobile Map Satellite Navigation Summary
The article has briefly analysed three of the major applications which feature satellite navigation features. For most users, AmAze will be perfectly suitable, with this free piece of software including all of the important features that accompany GPS navigation devices. However, for those users who wish to get the absolute maximum out of their application, Sygic and Garmin should be considered. Sygic will suffice for many, although the extra features that accompany the Garmin product may persuade some users to splash out a little more and purchase that.
