Samsung Mobile Map

The majority of smartphones now use third party operating systems. However, Samsung have recently gone against this trend and opted to release an in-house system named Bada. Having only been released in 2010, the operating system is very new although all of Samsung’s most recent handsets are released on this platform. Despite only being on the market for a couple of years, Bada phones have proved very popular with the general public and Samsung is expected to expand their range of handsets in the near future.

With Samsung utilising something of an unknown operating system, there may be confusion in relation to the applications that run on it. It would be fair to say that many developers have not yet adapted their applications to run on Bada, although several of the main brands have released products that are compatible with the system. This means that the mobile map market is currently not completely accessible to users of Samsung phones. For this reason, this article will concentrate on those mobile map applications that will successfully function with Samsung devices.

Google Maps

With Google Maps being the most popular mobile map software on the market, Samsung users will be relieved to hear that Google have made their device available on the Bada platform. The application contains all of the standard mobile map features, including the ability to plot directions, search the yellow pages and even instantly plot the user’s current location on the map. What’s more, it appears as though Google are attempting to start including satellite navigational features, with voice commands present on the latest version.

Sygic Maps

Another popular application is one developed by Sygic. Although this is not free software, the application is hugely extensive and contains practically every mobile map feature imaginable. The developers at Sygic have more or less made their program into a standalone GPS navigator, with users being offered features such as visual lane guidance, voice commands and even speed alerts. The product could most definitely be classed as a full replacement for standard satellite navigation hardware, meaning that Samsung users have access to one of the most powerful mobile map products available.

Garmin Maps

Garmin Maps is another premium application and it offers a very similar feature set to Sygic. The big selling point of the Garmin product is the ability to view surroundings as real life, 3D photos. This provides users with a much more visual and helpful experience and will aid navigational substantially. However, the application is significantly more expensive than the Sygic download.

Samsung Mobile Map Summary

Samsung’s decision to release their own operating system may mean that their users have been given less options in the application market for now. Developers are still trying to grasp the Bada system and with that, there are only a select few mobile map products available. Fortunately, some of the big players have made their software available, with Google Maps being the most well known. With several premium brands also releasing their applications, Samsung users definitely have a sufficient number of options for the time being.
