Google Earth Mobile Map

Google Earth Mobile Map was something of a revelation when it was released back in 2005. It was actually originally named EarthViewer 3D but after Google bought the developer Keyhole Inc, the branding was completely changed and unsurprisingly, the publicity generated by the program was immense. For most users the program is free but for those commercial customers who wish to maximize the benefits, they can purchase Google Earth Pro which retails for around £250 per year.

It took several years for Google Earth Maps to appear on mobile devices. The first platform to support it was the iPhone, with Google releasing the software in October 2008. Since then, just one other mobile platform has been supported, after the search engine giant released an Android version onto the market in 2010. With Google being the main developer of the Android system, this move was expected and it’s thought that many Android phones in the future will have this software automatically installed upon purchase.

Google Earth Mobile Map Features

When Google Earth was released several years ago, there’s no doubting the impact it had. People were amazed with how sophisticated the software was and as time has progressed, the developers have installed many more advanced features. At the moment, the application benefits from the following:

  • 3D Viewing – There is no doubt that the main feature of Google Earth is the ability to view the map in 3D. While it was originally thought that the mobile version of the program would be fairly limited in this capacity, it is actually hugely impressive and looks almost identical to the desktop software.
  • Find your Location – With the touch of a button, GPRS technology allows the program to automatically plot the user on the 3D map.
  • Voice Search – The software allows for users to say a location in either English, Japanese or Mandarin, and for the map to then zoom to that area.
  • Local Search – A lot of users will find the local search highly beneficial, with restaurants, towns and just general businesses all being easily discoverable through simple search terms.

Google Earth Mobile Map Summary

It can be summarised that Google have released a mobile map product that practically matches their desktop version in every way. All of the 3D features are still available and with users also having an array of map searching abilities, it’s no surprise to see Google Earth as one of the most popular downloads.
